The world we live in seems so thoroughly rigged to
benefit those at the top, and so thoroughly impervious to change from
below, that many people conclude (correctly, in our view): we need to
get rid of the whole system, we need a revolution. But we’ve seen
repeatedly how a willingness to make rebellion from below doesn’t
necessarily lead to successful change. For example, the revolutionary
upsurges of the Arab Spring in 2011 have almost all been rolled back or
derailed to outcomes their initiators had never intended.
How
can we ensure that a future revolt against the present system and its
inhuman logic can succeed in bringing about the change we need?
