Dr. Salaita has been an outspoken  critic of Israel and Zionism, and is the author of \u003Ci\u003EIsrael's Dead Soul\u003C\/i\u003E. The university's decision to rescind the job offer to Salaita, \u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/www.insidehighered.com\/news\/2014\/08\/06\/u-illinois-apparently-revokes-job-offer-controversial-scholar\"\u003Eaccording to a report in Inside Higher Ed\u003C\/a\u003E,  was prompted by \"the tone of his comments on Twitter about Israel's  policies in Gaza,\" marked by spontaneous indignation against Israel's  slaughter of Gazans. \u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EA massive public campaign in support of Salaita has now generated more than 15,000  signatures calling for UIUC to  reinstate him.
